Alright... so I have been asked to give a little insight on my journey as a bride-to-be... You see, the difficulty in planning my own wedding is not in having a creative block or in needing direction- o the contraire... I am having trouble committing ... to one idea that is... you see-
I want something timeless...
But I want something playful and true to us
And we haven't ruled out an intimate destination wedding...
But do we go with the lovely town of Decatur (which we have fallen in love with)....
Or just let ourselves go and do it big in Vegas....
You see... I am in this industry as a career and thus I will attend and design so many amazing weddings throughout my lifetime... and I never want to say "if only..." (though I am sure that I will... often) So I have a lot of decisions to make- the first being the ring (Still loving Vera- but also loving a vintage estate blue diamond with an almost-offensive amount of detailing in the setting and band... from my FAVORITE antique shop- I will sneak on over there later this week and snag a pic for you all)....photo credits: First dress by melissa sweet, First two cakes by April Reed, Skull Couture ring by Dior, Tatto invitations by Milkmaid Press, hankie by Spitfiregirl, Sailor shoe found here, Chair via Artfool, Jackpot cake by Lovin Sullivan, cherry escorts by Invite Delight

LOVE! The Tattoo invites! :D
Committing is my problem as well; however my problem isn't the wedding (I'm doing a sophisticated picnic which was inspired by Faye: http://fayeandgreer.blogspot.com/2007/08/fayes-picnic-inspired-recommitment.html)
My problem is committing to a china pattern or in my case a number of china patterns since I will mixing and matching everything.
Oh decisions, decisions, decisions...can't to see what you choose.
I'm having the SAME exact problem -- and was going to blog about it today :o) I'm just trying to stay consistent and true to a general theme -- and explore different permutations of that theme. Does that make sense? Timeless, elegant, sophisticated, chic -- these are all very important -- but I'm also totally goofy and want something modern, playful, fun, memorable and definitely NOT stuffy. It's not schizophrenia -- it means we have great taste and like lots of things. (or at least that's what I keep telling myself) :o)
sarah... good luck with the china search- I can spend literally hours obsessing over the right pattern, which flatware, and the arrangement of glassware for each event... while a bride may not feel that it is important, I know that it will KILL me if I am to stay for the entire night staring at a chivari when I know deep down that it should have been a Victoria...
this being said, I have a suggestion for your china (to add to your already complicated decision)... Perfect Table Settings offers a china pattern rental that incorporates the mixing and matching of 4 patterns that are "flea-market-chic" ... I used them last year at a with one of my "Shabby-Chic" brides...

where is the veil from in the first set of pictures?
i wholly recommend the antique ring route. it's better for the world (no new diamond is produced so you're not funding all the evil that goes into new diamonds), most antique rings were handcrafted, it will be one of a kind, and so very much more unique than those assembly line diamonds at the mall jewelry store.
i love my antique engagement ring and i'm so glad we went this way. photos of my circa 1930 platinum ring here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/intermittent/1213781841/ and here:

My name is Kristen Nichols, and I designed the tattoo stationery at my studio, Milkmaid Press, and I wanted to say thanks, and your wedding seems like it's going to be fabulous!
