Right now I am really inspired by color... and flowers.... it all started with this little piece of
Brocade Home's Catalog... I was so inspired by how festive the flowers are amongst the backdrop of my own aesthetic... and then I began to reflect upon the current role that flowers play in my events.. and I realized that more and more brides are being deterred from putting too much thought into them, and allocating their funds to lighting and linens and over-the-top dramatic features.... and this saddens me. I completely agree that flowers, in their current state, are a big waste... They have become very cookie-cutter by design- pick the color or the shape or the bloom, put them in a few vases and set them in the center of every table... very stark and uninspired... but what if we were to start taking a more "festive" approach to our design... Look at what the world has been doing with flowers for centuries.... (

I am so encouraged and hopeful of the world at large when I look at these pictures... and really would love to use them in my designs... it amazes me the way that the marigolds and lotus blooms are able to transform such an ordinary market.... such an everyday street.... into a beautifully celebratory space... THAT is what I want my events to do- I want them to encourage and emphasise the nature of the occcasion.... not fade into the backdrop or play the supporting role to a table linen... or be an afterthought to "fill a space"
There seems to be a sense of sincerity within these flowers that my designs are currently lacking... and I really hope to one day see that same sense of beauty when I look back at my portfolio... I believe that this may be the first in an on-going series of posts dedicated to flowers around the world...
